April 22, 2026 – Leonard Bus Sales is proud to announce that Sarah Guay, a senior at Peru Central School, is the 2025 winner of the Leonard Bus Sales’ “A Day in the Life of a School Bus” Art Competition for her original acrylic on canvas work titled “First Odyssey.”
In addition to a $1,000 one-time scholarship paid directly to the educational institution that Sarah will attend, her original creation will be framed and put on display at Peru Central School’s Transportation Department. Sarah’s winning entry will also be made into professional prints and shared with school districts and school bus enthusiasts across the state. According to Sarah, her submission portrays a young boy waiting for the bus on his first day of school – filled with uncertainty and anxiety until the bright yellow school bus approaches his house and the uncertainty and anxiety transform into a sense of opportunity.
“The Leonard Bus Sales family believes that a successful education has many dimensions, and the arts play a critical role in shaping well-rounded adults who are prepared to thrive in an ever-changing world. In this world, the ability to express ideas across cultures and diverse backgrounds is key to success,” said Jon Leonard, President of Leonard Bus Sales. “A Day in the Life of a School Bus Art Competition encourages students to reflect on their shared experience – the promise that each new day brings – within a space that feels safe, familiar, and protective from the outside world.”
Leonard Bus Sales launched its annual art competition to inspire and recognize young artists in high schools across New York State. A Day in the Life of a School Bus Art Competition requires participating juniors and seniors to artistically depict a day in the life of a school bus and select either an IC BusTM, Trans Tech, or GreenPower Motor Company brand school bus as the subject – the three brands that are sold and supported by Leonard Bus Sales.
Leonard concluded, “The yellow school bus is synonymous with the educational and social development of our youth. We are proud to play a role in ensuring their daily safe travels to and from school, and to support their dreams for the next stage of their lives through the Leonard Bus Sales’ A Day in the Life of a School Bus Art Competition.”
